Lesson 1: Installing Joomla |
|
(Feel free to skip this lesson if you already have Joomla installed.) To be quite honest, installing Joomla is probably the single most difficult part of creating a Joomla site. Let's go ahead and get it over with as quickly as possible, so we can move on to the fun stuff. :-) |
If you use Dreamhost (the hosting company that we use), they have a "One-Click Installation" for Joomla. It's just what it sounds like: You click one button, and they install it for you. Pretty neat if you ask me. |

If you use a hosting service other than Dreamhost, you're going to have to use a method known as FTP (stands for File Transfer Protocol) to install Joomla to your domain. The reason, by the way, that installing Joomla is slightly more complicated than simply downloading and installing any other program is that you're actually installing Joomla to somebody else's computer (in this case, a computer owned by your hosting company) rather than to your own.
